Downtown's Summer Center Of Gravity Has Moved North Of The Ballpark

  • July 9, 2026

For years the shorthand for a downtown summer weekend went: walk to Busch, eat at Ballpark Village, watch fireworks over the Arch. That shorthand is out of date. The block-by-block updates for summer 2026 tell a different story, and if you live in a loft between Tucker and Broadway, you're closer to the new action than the people driving in for a game.

The reason is simple. Almost every meaningful new opening downtown this year sits on or one block off Washington Avenue, and the July 4 weekend that used to belong to the Arch grounds now has a parade route that connects Wash Ave to the river. The neighborhood's summer calendar has quietly reorganized itself around your side of downtown.
